Padre Burgos Park
Three Filipino Priests were executed by the Spaniards in 1872 and one of them was Padre Jose Ma. Burgos. He was born here in Vigan City and this park commemorates his bravery on campaigning for Filipino priesthood, which was exclusive for Spanish Friars at that time.
When a mutiny in Cavite was foiled in 1872, the Spanish arrested Padre Burgos along with 2 other priests - Padre Gomez and Zamora and accused them of inciting the failed revolt. They were sentenced to garrote (a form of strangulation) on a mock trial on February 15, 1872 and were executed 2 days later.
