I dislike comparing movies to books or to other movies but I have read The Hunger Games and I have seen Battle Royale (1 and 2). In my opinion this movie is an excellent story on its own even if you have not read the book, and a decent not-too-gore-filled version as compared to Battle Royale. Enjoyable and decent paced, at times a bit dizzying because of the camera-work but all in all a solid movie. Watch it with girl friends who'll most likely be either Team Peeta or Team Gale.
