Wat Phra Mahathat
Captured with a HTC One X in Ayuthaya, Thailand on Wednesday, 15 January 2014 9:03 am
Ayuthaya, located around 85km north of Bangkok (1.5 hour by train), was one of the grandest and largest cities in its time. The city had an estimated population of 1 million people in the 1700s until it was ransacked and destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767. Above is the Wat Phra Mahathat, one of the largest temple complexes in the UNESCO site. This is where a bodhi tree wrapped its roots on the head of a stone Buddha producing one of the most iconic images of Thailand.
